One of the biggest challenges intermediate guitarists face is expanding their repertoire of chord progressions. At the Twelve Tone Music School, they'll work on techniques involved with riff-playing and lead guitar. Techniques like alternate picking, pentatonic scales, power chords, barre chords, finger-style, hammer-ons and pull-offs will be introduced in this section. The student will also learn basic solos and how to hear scales in order to improvise their own!

Adult players might study more advanced skills than children. For example, if you're an advanced player, you can take on a specialty. Jazz students learn extended chord voicings, improvisation with chord tones and passing notes or scales, comping, and the music of artists such as Wes Montgomery and Django Reinhardt (traditional) as well as Pat Metheny and John Scofield (modern). Classical students learn more about sight reading; fingerstyle tone production along with right-hand nail care; polyphonic playing; and eventually songs by composers such as Heitor Villa-Lobos, Leo Brouwer, Fernando Sor. Rock players can explore two-hand tapping, tremolo picking, sweep picking (using effects pedals), rock/blues improvisation.
